Perform before an international panel of esteemed judges at Verona’s historic Teatro Nuovo or Palazzo Gran Guardia in this friendly choral competition. Each day of the festival is filled with music and sightseeing. See Juliet’s House in Verona, believed to be the inspiration for the famous balcony scene in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Upon arrival in Italy, meet your Music Contact International Tour Manager and travel by private motor coach to your hotel located along the shores of Lake Garda, one of Italy’s largest and most scenic lakes, framed by high alpine peaks and lakefront cafés serving Italian espresso and delicious gelato.

Following a welcome dinner with other guest choirs, attend the Opening Celebration of The Verona International Choral Competition, and enjoy a warm welcome from the hosts, Associazione Gruppi Corali Verona, and a night of special entertainment.

This morning, choirs are invited into the community to perform concerts in local schools and senior centers for appreciative audiences.

Later, choirs compete before a distinguished, international jury in Verona’s historic Teatro Nuovo or Palazzo Gran Guardia. Listen to other participating choirs, and get a taste of choral traditions from around the world.

This evening, enjoy dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Today, embark on a full day excursion to Venice, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Venice is made up of 118 islands, over 450 bridges, and more than 180 canals. See the city’s highlights including Basilica San Marco, the Rialto Bridge, and the Canal Grande dotted with gondolas.

Return to the hotel for dinner, or extend your stay in Venice and dine at a restaurant of your choosing.

Spend this day in Verona. See the breathtaking Roman Arena and Juliet’s courtyard balcony where the famous scene from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet played out in 1302. Stroll along the open piazzas lined with 14th-century buildings and visit the open-air market displaying fresh produce and local crafts.

Next, attend the Closing Ceremony where choirs are recognized and awards are distributed. Choirs who place Gold are invited to sing on stage. A reception with food and beverages is followed by a Grand Procession to the Roman arena where all choirs join voices for a final group sing!

An early dinner is served at the hotel and locally hosted Friendship Concerts take place throughout the region, further enhancing musical bonds and camaraderie between singers.

  • October 12 – 15, 2017
    The director’s Orientation Trip for the Verona International Choral Competition is a four day event, taking place October 12 – 15, 2017 (departing North America on October 11th).

    Upon arrival in Italy, your Music Contact International tour manager will greet you at the airport. Together, transfer to your hotel located along the shores of Lake Garda. There will be time to refresh from your journey before taking an Orientation Walk with sightseeing and time for lunch. Dinners are arranged nightly in the hotel dining room, where you will meet and dine with other directors whose choirs will participate in the April festival.

    Over the course of the weekend, enjoy an excursion to Venice to see famed sites such as the Grand Canal, the Bridge of Sighs, St. Mark’s Basilica and the Rialto Bridge. Travel to Verona to see the competition venue, the Teatro Nuovo, or Palazzo Gran Guardia. Meet with Festival organizers to ask questions about the competition, participation categories and repertoire.

    The Complimentary Orientation Trip is an invaluable opportunity to preview the venues, hotels and to discuss program points of the Festival. Your travel to Verona, Italy is complimentary including airfare from New York’s JFK Airport, accommodations, ground transportation and most meals. This Orientation Trip is for the choir director or official representative of each registered choir. Participation is not required, although the weekend is extremely helpful for visualizing the components of the Festival. If you are unable to attend the Orientation Trip, Music Contact International is happy to relay any specific questions to the Festival organizers on your behalf.

  • Please let Music Contact International know if your choir is interested in remaining in Europe longer. We are happy to plan an itinerary according to your choir’s interests. The magnificent cities of Florence, Rome, Assisi and more are only a short drive away.

VENUES

TEATRO NUOVO or PALAZZO GRAN GUARDIA

TEATRO NUOVO or PALAZZO GRAN GUARDIA

Located in the heart of Verona, choirs perform adjudicated concerts at the Teatro Nuovo, or Palazzo Gran Guardia for a renowned panel of international judges, concert goers and other participating choirs.

Staging:
The stage of the Teatro Nuovo, or Palazzo Gran Guardia will have 2 risers in addition to the main stage floor. Choirs enter the stage from the back and exit stage right.

Instruments:
A grand piano will be available for your accompanist to play. A music stand is available for the choir director. The choir will be introduced by a representative from the City of Verona. Additional announcements may be made by the choir; however, any time used to make an announcement will reduce the time available to sing. Due to time constraints, additional instrumentation is generally not possible, as there will not be any opportunity to set up or perform a sound check. Please discuss any additional instrument needs with us early on in the registration process.

Repertoire:
Each choir chooses its own repertoire for this concert from the four categories offered. The program length is 15 minutes maximum including any time you need to set up on the stage. *Changes to repertoire may be made after the initial submission.

EXTENSIONS

  • A See Michelangelo’s David, the stunning Duomo and the famous Ponte Vecchio Bridge. Sing at Mass in a local venue such as St. Mark’s Church.

    Day One:

    Transfer from Lake Garda to Florence. Enjoy lunch on your own before embarking on a guided tour of the Galleria dell’Accademia OR the Uffizi. Perform as a part of the Mass at St. Mark’s Church, or another local venue. A wonderful Italian dinner welcomes you to this beautiful city.

    Day Two:

    The day is free to explore the famed leather marketsA or to visit some of the other magnificent sites in the city. A festive farewell dinner is arranged before returning to the hotel.

    Day Three:

    Check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport and check in for your return flight to North America.
