A warm welcome awaits each choir from the host communities, who invite all of the guest choirs into their churches on Sunday morning.

Bringing together choirs of different ages, performance backgrounds and cultures, the festival is designed to allow maximum interaction between the guest choirs and the people of Vermont.

Choirs have an opportunity to select from two great ways to participate in the Vermont International Choral Festival.

The Massed Sing of the Vermont International Choral Festival in Stowe invites choirs to share their voices under the direction of Mr. Robert De Cormier. We are honored to have his wonderful skills as the Festival conductor.

The Concert Series of the Vermont International Choral Festival invites choirs to perform the music from their diverse backgrounds in these quintessential New England towns, whose residents offer their hospitality and a deep appreciation for the choral tradition. Over the course of three days, the choirs present individual concerts in various community venues.

Robert De Cormier

Festival Conductor

Robert De Cormier is a world-renowned American musical conductor, arranger and director who resides in Vermont. After graduating from Juilliard he was conductor and arranger for Harry Belafonte and music director for Peter, Paul and Mary. He acted as music director of the New York Choral Society for 17 years. He helped found the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and remains the director. In 2000 Mr. De Cormier established Counterpoint, a nine-member professional vocal ensemble. In 2007 he received an Honorary Doctorate from Middlebury College.

Each year, Mr. De Cormier brings his vast experience and warm and inspiring personality to the Vermont International Choral Festival Massed Sing. Choirs come away enthralled with his music, skill as a conductor and his incredible ability to unite people through choral music!
